Kamboji is movie inspired by the true story of a Kathakali artist in the early '70s, where the protagonist Kunjunni is being sent to gallows for murdering a women. Kamboji is a Carnatic raga, which is really romantic in nature. As the movie is all about love, passion and music, the title of the movie is apt. Kamboji is a musical and Kathakali and Mohiniyattam sequences have been filmed in all authenticity.
Prof Lakshmi M Padmanabhan is producing Kamboji under Padmalakshmi Productions banner. Vinod Mankara is handling story, screenplay and dialogues and director of Kamboji. Shambu Sarma is weilding the camera. M Jayachandran has composed four brilliant songs in Kamboji. While the late ONV Kurup has written three songs, Vinod Mankara has also provided a song. Padmashree Dr. KJ Yesudas, KS Chithra, Bombay Jayashree, Sreevalsan J Menon and Kottakal Madhu have lend their voices.
Actor Vineeth Radhakrishnan is the hero of Kamboji and Lakshmi Gopalasamy is the heroine. Others in the cast include Harish Peredi, Rachana Narayanankutty, Sona Nair, Kalaranjini, Sivaji Guruvayur, Indrans and others.
Kamboji revolves around the love story between the Kathakali artiste Kunjunni (Vineeth) and Uma Antharjanam, a Mohiniyattam danseuse. Kamboji has given much preference to music and dance.
